I’m sure we’ve all watched rain fall into a puddle, river, or some form of water. And I’m sure we’ve all noticed the ripple effect that comes when the rain hits the body of water creating rings that grow larger and larger the farther out from the center they get.
Your obedience is the rain drop and your obedience, whether you know it or not, has a sequence of divine events that occur because of it. They can be big effects, but a lot of the time they will be small effect that later turn into big things.
Take Noah for example. God chose him and said, “Noah. I need you to build an arc because I’m going to destroy the world.”
You know what Noah said?
I have to be honest, I don’t know if I would have been as perfectly obedient as Noah in that situation. I mean, Noah didn’t even have a single question for God.
God told him the exact dimensions the arc needed to be, He told Noah to make it out of gopherwood, and He told Noah to gather two of every animal, male and female.
The Bible says in Genesis 6:22 “Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did.”
Can you imagine the negative effects that would have taken place had Noah said, “Now God, hold on a minute. Let’s talk about this.”
We wouldn’t be here! God would have destroyed His entire creation, Noah’s family included but Noah literally saved our lives!
Because Noah was perfectly obedient, beautiful things came of it.
I happen to be where I am right now because of a friend of mine’s perfect obedience.
My dear friend Jessica had it on her heart to partake in women’s ministry and lead her own Bible study and she finally, this last January, took the leap of faith and listened to what God was putting in her heart.
She invited me to join and if I’m being completely transparent, I only said yes to get out of the house one night a week. I needed a break from my kids!
The book she chose, and the women that were there, changed my life. It opened my eyes and my heart and led me to be closer to God than I ever have been before.
Because of Jessica’s perfect obedience, my family now goes to church every Sunday. My husband and I do a Bible study together, as well as a study by ourselves. We are constantly thinking of ways we can serve the Lord and revamping the ways we want to raise our children. I started this blog!
I am now to the point where if I don’t get the Word in for just a few minutes a day, I feel like my whole day is off. Even if I just read one chapter, I feel centered, I feel grounded, and most importantly I feel close to the Lord.
So many things have blossomed in my life because she listened to God telling her to start a Bible study.
Isn’t that such a beautiful thing?
Jessica was used as a vessel from the Holy Spirit to awaken what I didn’t know what laying dormant in my heart.
So let me ask you, how many people can you affect with listening to what God is putting on your heart?
It might be something you have no desire doing. Maybe God is telling you that you need to reach out to an old boyfriend and forgive him. Maybe God is telling you that you need to befriend that “loner” in the office. Maybe God is telling YOU to start a Bible study.
We will never know how many people we affect with our obedience, but we do know that beautiful things will always come of it.
“If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all His commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on Earth.” Deuteronomy 28:1
