Just like the rest of the country and heart community, I was touched by Jimmy Kimmel’s opening monologue about his son’s heart condition. I feel for him. I wish I could give him a huge hug and welcome him into this community of heart parents that no one wants to be in.
My heart melted at the sweet photo he shared of his son smiling, but then I had an instant panic attack when he shared the photo of his son after his surgery.
We don’t want to believe it, but there are some sick, sick people in this world. People that will take your horrible situation, and twist it for monetary gain for themselves. There have been so many scenarios, not just from heart babies, where a photo has been stolen and used to make fake charity campaigns such as GoFund Me.
Watermarking your photos prevents this from happening.
No matter the reason for your child’s hospital stay, if you are going to post a picture on the internet, you NEED to watermark it. Once it is out there on the internet, it’s out there forever. I have pictures of my son after his Hybrid that were posted without my watermark or permission and it scares me that somewhere out there, someone is exploiting my son for money.
Watermarking photos is so easy. I just downloaded a free app on my phone to do it.
You can also just add text over your picture in your Edit section on your phone. If you’re on your computer, you can do a quick Google search for “Free Watermarking App” and several websites will show up.
You can put anything you want across it. You can use your last name like I did.
If you have a Facebook page for your heart warrior you can use the name of that page.
It can say, “Don’t take my freaking photo.” for all I care.
It just needs to have something across it. I have so many photos that I have posted on my other blog that I wish I had watermarked before I had posted but alas, they are out there in the internet world forever.
So please please please, again (for like the 100th time, I know) watermark your photos of your sweet baby. Don’t be a victim to someone’s sick needs to get a few bucks.
